Vitamin C Benefits in Skincare

Vitamin C Benefits for the Skin

To begin, what is Vitamin-C in terms of skincare? Vitamin-C is a potent antioxidant prefect for the growth and development of body tissue including the skin. Vitamin-C aids in fighting free radicals, skin brightening, minimizing fine lines/wrinkles and increasing collagen production.

Free Radicals

Free radicals are essentially unstable molecules that are missing an electron. In order to stabilize themselves, they steal electrons from nearby healthy cells. This action results in cell compromising leading to dryness, irritation and premature aging.

How does Vitamin-C help free radicals from forming?

Antioxidants donate an electron to free radicals before they can steal one from a healthy cell, therefore, donating one before damage can be done.

Vitamin-C is the perfect antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals and minimize the visible impact from environmental damage.

Skin Brightening

As well as being a powerful antioxidant, Vitamin-C slows melanin production. This results in lightening hyperpigmentation and brown spots, evening skin tone and will leaving the skin with a glowing radiant complexion.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles have a lot to do with free radicals. As do collagen and elastin. These two things are mainly associated with a youthful complexion. When compromised, collagen and elastin lack “structural support” resulting in visible signs of fine lines, wrinkles and aging skin.

Vitamin-C is one of the best antioxidants to fight free radical damage such as fine lines and wrinkles. When used correctly and consistently, the skin will appear more youthful and hydrated!

Increasing Collagen Production

Over time, your skin will have a decline in collagen. With a decline of collagen comes visible signs of aging. Vitamin-C stabilizes the collagen already in the skin and also aids in the production of new collagen.

In other words, not only will Vitamin-C maintain pre-existing collagen, it will help produce more, leaving the skin firm and youthful longer.
